Paraísos. Un atlas.

Tax havens, as real territories, are present in normalized maps, but seem still absent from the collective consciousness. They are the non-place that defies and transcends national identities, currencies, physical borders and financial obstacles. Apparently they escape from the system, but they are bred inside it, from a very precise physical and geopolitical situation that can be confronted with the traditional and cumulative strategy of the Atlas. The text relies on the works of various artists that have used the atlas in a critical way in order to unveil the intrinsic contradictions around the cartographer’s endeavours. Marcel Broodthaers’ Atlas is used as the graphical cornerstone that supports the whole project.

Los paraísos, en tanto que territorios reales, están presentes en los mapas normalizados, pero ausentes en la conciencia colectiva. Son el no-lugar que desafía y trasciende identidades nacionales, moneda en curso, fronteras físicas y trabas tributarias. Escapan en apariencia al sistema y, sin embargo, nacen de él y tiene una situación física y geopolítica precisa que puede ser abordada con éxito mediante la tradicional estrategia acumulativa del atlas. El texto se apoya en el trabajo de artistas que han puesto en crisis la idea de atlas con el fin de desvelar sus contradicciones intrínsecas y los intereses creados en torno a la labor del cartógrafo. El Atlas de Marcel Broodthaers sirve como piedra de toque gráfica sobre la que se sustenta el proyecto.
