A neologism to describe our “public intimacy”.

“Once the current loss of traditional public spaces is acknowledged, it will be imperative that the border between public and private spheres be redrawn. The question that arises today is whether one can imagine a public space founded in plurality — that is, a public space that is not conceived as a unique place, but within a multiplicity. What perhaps needs to be explored are the shifting limits between the intimacy and publicity opened up by new media, offering the rise of a digital flâneur and leading to a worldwide dérive. These novel confines are outlining original zones where one could dwell, singularly as well as collectively. Citando al psicoanalista Serge Tisseron, el autor utiliza un neologismo contrapuesto al concepto de intimidad: la extimidad. Escribe Casilli: “La instantaneidad, el aquí y ahora de los intercambios sin intermediación, que antes se reservaban al círculo familiar, es ahora una característica de las colectividades en línea. Y la exposición pública, con la circunspección y el carácter oficial que conllevan, también gobierna nuestras conductas más íntimas en la red”.

Esta extimidad no es inocente. Conlleva nuevos riesgos y modifica jerarquías de valores que pueden trasladarse a la política (con una fácil expansión de opciones extraordinariamente radicales que no tendrían ninguna posibilidad fuera de la red, lo que se ha dado en llamar “el contagio del odio”), a la propiedad (con la instauración de una especie de comunismo libertario basado, presuntamente, en compartir lo que se tiene dinamitando infinidad de derechos e inercias industriales con la coartada del trueque digital), a la sexualidad (posibilidad de multiplicar, más allá de la convencionalidad, nuevas formas de participación, activa o pasiva).”

Wikipedia: Après Lacan, l’extimité, par opposition à l’intimité, est, tel qu’il a été défini par le psychiatre Serge Tisseron, le désir de rendre visibles certains aspects de soi jusque là considérés comme relevant de l’intimité. Il est constitutif de la personne humaine et nécessaire à son développement psychique – notamment à une bonne image de soi. En cela, l’extimité doit être distinguée de l’exhibitionnisme qui est pathologique et répétitif, inscrit dans un rituel morbide.
